**Why is this option available?**
An increasing number of youth leaders and art instructors have been
inquiring about what it would take to host an ArtCords educational
event. We understand that most organizations who would like us to
conduct presentations have limited funding and thus are seeking
public support to cover our nominal fees for travel, lodging and
meals. We are very frugal and seek the most reasonable options.
One of many open invitations is to help train youth on the Big
Island of Hawaii:
Partners
in Development received a donation of saddle shop equipment,
complete with cinch loom and basic materials. Saddle Maker Pete
Gorrell has been instrumental in assisting the organization. Both
Pete and program director David Fuertes, have requested our
presence to teach custom cinch making with additional
encouragement/invitations from the Anna Ranch and Paniolo
Preservation Society. This invitation includes the opportunity for
additional cord-related workshops such as belts and hat-bands as
well as presentations for several school groups.
Other organizations which have requested an opportunity to include
our workshops and classes within the activities they offer,
include: 4-H, FFA, fiber festivals, cultural events and other
international youth events. Given the unique nature of our
presentations and custom nature of the skilled craftsmanship of our
items, we provide a few items to sell at venues with custom orders
being the main emphasis. Most events which would like us to
participate require substantial booth fees, understandably designed
for the general retail seller, however, our experience has been
that folks are full of questions and eager to try their hand at
making items. This often results in them making more confident
choices in purchasing products from other event vendors, or
conducting research before contacting us with a customized
order.
The growing ArtCords network of students and friends has been
expanding since Darin began public cinch presentations in 1992.
Many independent makers have been diligently working to develop
this highly specialized niche of traditional cowboy fiber-arts.
With the increased interest in real mohair and alpaca cord cinches
and girths, we feel honored to provide a service to the industry by
sharing through presentations and demonstrations. Given the
fair-market value of materials and labor for such refined products
and substantial investment made months in advance to acquire the
natural fibers, we appreciate your generous assistance. Requests
and discussions with many professionals has encouraged us to
develop materials on three fronts:
1) Production of simplified how-to videos to be made available
online for general public viewing. These types of videos differ
substantially from our subscription videos. Illustrating specific
design and use considerations can help folks who are trying to
determine cinch issues.
Our budget to begin shooting and post the first ten video topics
free is $5,000
2) Cinch/Girth Field-research, with Equine Veterinarian oversight
and documentation in several different climates; printed how-to,
description guides; and educational resources for different age
groups.
Initial Budget of $17,000 to launch a two year study and
Publications initiative with School and Youth organization
focus.
3)Yarns and hardware to provide rope making and key chains at
events for folks of all ages to make something, completely custom,
to take home with them. If you would like to donate yarn or other
items for this purpose please contact us for details.
On-going with an average cost per event of $350
Our commitment remains focused on educating those who wish to
produce quality gear and helping develop/maintain outlets for those
who desire to use only the best for their horses and mules.

We appreciate your generous support.
ArtCords is not a 501(c)(3) charity and therefore does not qualify
for tax exemption in the United States. However, we do provide many
services and educational programs for non-profit
organizations/public events. Please contact us should you have an
interest making a donation in those organizations we work with who
do provide receipts for tax purposes.
